ColorEdge CG210 Features

Hardware-Based Portrait Mode Support for Macintosh and Windows

The ColorEdge CG210 provides built-in support for portrait mode with the EIZO’s exclusive ActiveRotation II technology. The monitor includes a gravity sensor, so it “knows” when it is being rotated, and changes between portrait and landscape modes accordingly. Because it is hardware-based, ActiveRotation II does not absorb CPU power or compromise graphics performance. It supports Macintosh OS 9/X and Windows 2000/XP platforms.

Graphics board support for ActiveRotation II varies by manufacturer and model. With some graphics boards, it may be necessary to change the resolution on the PC side or restart the computer after rotating the screen. For details on graphics board support, please see the compatibility page.
  14-Bit Processing

The ColorEdge CG210 incorporates a powerful new EIZO-developed ASIC (Application Specific Integrated Circuit) with 14-bit color processing capability (16 times more accurate than 10-bit).
This allows a larger number of grayscale increments, for grayscale rendering that is on a par with high-end CRT monitors. The result is a much greater degree of color detail, especially in dark areas and shadows.

14-bit v. 10-bit Processing
14-bit v. 10-bit Processing
With 10-bit processing, the error rate is high in low tonal areas during calculation. With 14-bit processing, accuracy is significantly improved resulting in fewer conversion errors.
  Factory Adjustment of Gamma
  10-bit Gamma Correction Image
Not only are the ColorEdge models designed for accurate color reproduction, but each unit is adjusted at the factory to a gamma value of 2.2. This is accomplished by measuring the R, G and B gamma values from 0-255, then using the monitor's 10-bit Look-Up Table (LUT) with its 1,021-tone palette to select the 256 most appropriate tones to achieve the 2.2 value. Users can also set their own values from 1.0 to 2.6 in 0.1 increments with the ColorNavigator 3 software. This is important because accurate, non-fluctuating gamma values are necessary for the proper display of color. If colors are not based on specific values and cannot be adjusted, images will be displayed differently by different monitors. ColorEdge monitors provide both precision and consistency, so graphics professionals can be sure that the final product will look exactly the way they want it to.
  Accurate Color Temperature

Another important factor in achieving accurate, natural colors, especially for midtones, is setting the proper color temperature for white (white point). ColorEdge monitors are exceptionally versatile in this regard, providing color temperature adjustment from 4,000K to 10,000K in 500K increments (including 9,300K). This wide range ensures that users can achieve the optimum color temperature for any type of work, such as "paper white" for DTP.
  Auto Brightness Control

Drift Correction ImageThis EIZO-patented circuit stabilizes brightness soon after startup or coming out of power save mode. Additionally, this circuit eliminates brightness fluctuation by detecting changes in the surrounding backlight temperatures and automatically adjusting the divergence to the brightness default setting or user-defined level.
